Resting Energy Expenditure (REE)

Cardiopulmonary Exercise Stress Test

Vo2 Max Testing
Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET or CPEX), also referred to as a VO2 (oxygen consumption) test, is a specialized type of stress test or exercise test that measures your exercise ability. Information about the heart and lungs is collected to understand if the body’s response to exercise is normal or abnormal.
A VO2 max test is a maximal exercise test performed on a treadmill or bike while connected to a machine capable of analyzing your expired air. Your test provides data on how much oxygen you use as you exercise and determines the maximal oxygen you can consume during exercise. This is a gold-standard measurement of endurance.
Resting energy expenditure (REE) represents energy expenditure while a person lies quietly awake in a resting “steady” state. Resting Metabolic Rate is the number of calories that your body burns while at rest.

High Altitude Simulation Testing (H.A.S.T.)
A High Altitude Simulation Test (HAST) is a test to determine if there is a need supplemental oxygen when flying on an
airplane or go to a higher altitude.

Pulmonary Function Testing
Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) are noninvasive tests that show how well the lungs are working. The tests measure lung volume, capacity, rates of flow, and gas exchange. This information can help your healthcare provider diagnose and decide the treatment of certain lung disorders.

Exercise Challenge Testing
An exercise challenge to test for exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) is a specialized exercise stress test that can detect changes in lung function with vigorous exercise. Your lung function is measured (with a test called spirometry) before and after exercise to look for changes that are seen with EIB. It can also be used for people who have known asthma to look for exercise-induced asthma problems (EIA)

Methacholine Challenge Testing
Methacholine challenge test (also known asbronchoprovocation test) is performed to evaluate how "reactive" or
"responsive" your lungs are.

Exercise Prescription
Exercise prescription is the plan of exercise, which includes specific exercises, as well as the frequency, duration, and intensity of those exercises.

Arterial Blood Gas Sampling
An arterial blood gas (ABG) test is a blood test that requires a sample from an artery in your body to measure the
levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your blood.

FeNO Testing (for asthma)
A FeNO test or exhaled nitric oxide test, in patients with allergic or eosinophilic asthma, is a way to determine how much lung inflammation is present and how well inhaled steroids are suppressing
this inflammation.

EKG
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a simple, non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of the heart.

Military Service Physicals
The United States Armed services often
require clearance testing for potential recruits that have historic diagnoses of asthma or cardiac related abnormalities. A retest and clearance letter is often required to allow for entry.
